June 6, 2019 will be the 75th anniversary of that day, a day which began with these words from General Dwight D. Eisenhower’s order of the day: “Soldiers, Sailors, and Airmen of the Allied Expeditionary Force! You are about to embark upon the Great Crusade, toward which we have striven these many months. The eyes of the world are upon you. The hope and prayers of liberty-loving people everywhere march with you.”
Relatively speaking, only a handful of the 156,000 young men who ultimately fulfilled the hopes and prayers of the world, will still be with us onJune 6, 2019. In a sense, it is the last major remembrance of World War II that any significant number of its veterans will be able witness. It will be a singular, emotional milestone moment for Europeans as well as the U.S. and other Allies. Length 7:00.
